Stump Grinding Seattle
Stump grinding in Seattle, Washington was a challenging project. The northwest hospital was remodeling and expanding. J.R. Abbott Construction, Inc.(www.jrabbott.com/) was awarded the project and was well underway. So there was construction chaos everywhere. Not to mention the normal hustle-bustle of a busy hospital. We were working near people, big windows, and cars in the parking lot. We use plywood to surround our work area in high-risk zones. This prevents rocks or debris from flying out and causing harm or damage.
Five tall Cedar trees loomed over the oxygen tanks that give air to the whole hospital. Once the trees were safely removed, we mobilized our stump grinding equipment. The target depth requested was six inches below the grade. This will help get ready for easy landscaping. It is in the back near a large loading dock, so nothing too fancy is planned for the area after stump grinding.
Stump Grinding to prepare for excavation
There was another large stump near the front of the hospital at the main entrance. This tree is a Maple. It’s in the way of building a new wall for the remodeled and expanded wing. The stump itself was a little over four feet in diameter. But the groundswell and surface roots were extensive. The area needed preparation which involved removing the stump and all of its roots. We removed the stump by grinding it until it was over two feet below the ground level. We made sure to cut all the major surface roots during this process. The stump can be removed easily with the split grind process. A big excavator breaks it down into small pieces, making it fit in a dump truck.
