Big stump deep grind to prep for new screening trees
The project in the video was challenging because of numerous factors. The stump was in the backyard and up a grade. The adjacent neighbor’s property needed to be protected. And the roadway needed to be protected from flying rocks and stump debris. The client wishes to plant a new screening tree right where the large stump was. So I needed to grind the stump over two feet below the grade, which created massive amounts of wood chips. I had to throw all those chips by hand behind me and along the fence. There just weren’t many additional options in a tight area.

I pounded rebar into the ground to act as stakes. Then I leaned my plywood up against it to create a barrier. This system effectively protects my client’s patio and windows from mess and damage. And also protects the neighbor’s yard from debris. Also, the plywood shielded the road from any flying rocks or debris. In the end, I got a very nice grind on that stump. And the landscapers came in and hauled away the mulch and planted the new tree!
